Basketballghana.com can confirm NBA Champion Jonathan Kuminga has missed out on competing for Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the latest round of qualification games to the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

19 year old 6 foot 7 inch Forward Kuminga was expected to play for DR Congo after helping Golden State win the 2022 NBA title in his first season in the NBA after getting drafted into the league with the seventh overall pick.

He paid a visit to DR Congo President Felix Tshisekedi, First Lady Denise Tshisekedi and Prime Minister Sam Lukonde after winning the title with Golden State; he was expected to join his teammates in Cairo, Egypt for the qualifiers. (Click highlighted text to view full list of qualified teams)

However, Kuminga didn’t feature for DRC but has been spending time with the Warriors Summer League team. DRC won 20-0 against Kenya after the latter failed to show up for their matchup, beat Senegal 72-60 but lost 52-80 to Egypt.
