Angolan club Petro de Luanda has gone a step further in the 2022 Basketball Africa League-BAL-than the 2021 edition after making it to the final game. Petro clinched third place in last year’s competition.
Petro made it to the final game after beating Cameroonian side FAP 88-74; the team takes on Tunisian side US Monastir in the final that is to be played on Saturday, May 28 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda. Monastir beat defending champion Zamalek from Egypt 88-81 in the other semifinal game. [Click highlighted text to watch game highlights]
Luanda’s Childe Dundao led all players with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists and Jone Lopes added 14 points. The pair’s production was enough to overcome a poor showing from veteran and reliable Point Guard Carlos Morais who delivered five points, four rebounds and an assist.
Cedric Tsangue led FAP with 13 points, five rebounds and an assist; FAP delivered the biggest shock in the playoffs beating home side Rwanda Energy Group-REG- in the quarterfinals.
FAP plays Zamalek for third place later tonight.
