Defending Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I Champions Reformers of Prisons put on a shooting clinic late to clinch a win over St. Joseph’s CYO.
Reformers recorded a 75-49 win over CYO earlier today at the Prisons Court in Cantonments in one of two Division I games played at the venue. The 2021 Champions are yet to lose a game this season.
CYO couldn’t deal with the size of Reformers frontcourt and conceded offensive rebounds that led to second scoring opportunities for Prisons.
Prior to the contest, Reformers Women’s team bagged a 70-23 win over Galaxy Basketball in the Female Division.
Match Report
CYO led Reformers 12-11 at the end of the first quarter with Reformers Guard Raymond Abagi and CYO’s Jeffery Annan trading three pointers.
Yussif Iddi got three points to open the second quarter. Kingsley Whyte responded to a converted jump shot from CYO with a pair of jumpers. Yussif scored a layup; Mubarak Alhassan took advantage of a mixup in CYO’S to score off a missed shot.
Andre Adusei scored a layup off a fast break to give CYO a 21-17 lead with 4:17 minutes remaining. Reformers Captain Benjamin Abankwah assisted Nii Aryi’s easy layup off a CYO turnover. CYO got points from the free throw line to lead 26-21 at half time.
Adusei scored the third quarter’s first points from three point range but Reformers responded in kind getting deep shots from Abagi and Asamu Saaidu. Abagi added a jumper to give Reformers a 33-29 lead.
Yahaya Korka scored a layup for Reformers. James Amotoe checked into the game for the first time with 3:25 minutes left to play in the quarter and scored seven points including a late three pointer to give Reformers a 46-39 lead.
Amotoe buried a jumper, Alhassan tipped in a layup off an offensive rebound, delivered a two handed dunk and blocked Yussif’s dunk attempt.
Yussif scored a corner three pointer during this run. Amotoe drove hard to the basket and slammed the ball home that brought the crowd to its feet. Ibrahim Barbuoso scored a three pointer from the right corner to give Prisons a 61-44 lead.
Abagi buried a trio of three pointers and Amotoe scored one from deep from the top of the key to stretch Reformers lead. Annan buried a three pointer for CYO to fall 49-75.
