Limited training sessions led to poor communication and a poor play on defense according to Oil City Kings Basketball Club Head Coach Kojo Baffoe after a loss.
Kings lost 27-47 to Takoradi Technical University (TTU) Oilers on Day One of the 2022 Western Basketball Association (WBA) League. The league games are played with a running time format.
The game was played out at the TTU Basketball Court in Ghana’s Western regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi. Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) President Ato Van-Ess and WBA Chairman William Ocran were present.
“We are not playing defense we are not communicating…it’s all about defense, that’s what I believe in basketball we have to play better defense when we play better we can win. So that’s our main problem” he said in an interview with Basketballghana.com
Two young teams faced off in the season opener; Eff-Ess Basketball Academy clinched a 31-20 win over Lighters Basketball Club. Seven teams are competing in this year’s league with the top four ranked teams at the end of the regular season slated to play in the postseason.
