March Madness is officially here but the celebrated US Men’s National Basketball Championship won’t have San Diego State University competing in the next round of games.
This is down to San Diego State’s 69-72 overtime loss to Creighton University in the first round; this is the second straight year San Diego has lost in the first round following last year’s loss to Syracuse University.
Ghana Center Nathan Mensah played for San Diego State but was far from effective as he early foul trouble shackled him throughout the game.
Mensah played just 13 minutes and registered two blocks and two rebounds; he went scoreless in the game after attempting and missing his solo shot in the game he got hit with five fouls.
San Diego failed to get its potential game saving shot off in time to force a second overtime; the loss was similar to the team’s 52-53 fall to Boise State University in the Mountain West Conference Championship game.
The loss could mark Mensah’s final game at San Diego State as he is in his Senior Year; he could return to the program for next season.
