Basketballghana.com can report Guinean side SLAC has picked up the first win in the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) courtesy an 85-70 win over Senegal’s DUC Dakar.
The game was played at the Dakar Arena in Senegal with a handful of NBA personalities on hand to witness the opening ceremony and opening game. This is the second edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa continental tournament.
NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo, Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri and BAL President Amadou Fall were present to witness proceedings. (Click highlighted text to watch video)
12 teams representing 12 countries are competing in the tournament with six teams in the Sahara Conference and six teams in the Nile Conference.
Competition in the Sahara Conference runs from March 5 to March 15 and competition in the Nile Conference runs from April 9 to April 19 in Cairo, Egypt. The top four teams in each Conference progress to the knock out stage in Kigali, Rwanda.
Marcus Crawford and Antony Dane Miller led SLAC to victory by registering 30 and 22 points respectively to pace the game.
