Egyptian side Zamalek Basketball Club has missed out on progressing to the final game of the 2022 FIBA Intercontinental Cup/ Club World Cup but will compete for the bronze medal later today. The tournament is taking place in Cairo, Egypt.
Zamalek lost 61-78 to Spanish side San Pablo Burgos while Lakeland Magic lost 71-94 to Flamengo in the other semifinal matchup. Zamalek is representing Africa in the competition after winning the 2021 Basketball Africa League (BAL). (Click highlighted text to watch game highlights)
San Pablo are the defending champions of the tournament and represent Europe following its Basketball Champions League triumph; Brazilian side Flamengo represents South America while Lakeland Magic represents NBA Gatorade League (G League).
Zamalek had three players score in double figures in the game with Mikhael McKinney’s 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal in 28:32 minutes performance lead the way in a wire to wire victory for San Pablo.
The host team Zamalek plays Magic at 15:00 GMT today and San Pablo takes on Flamengo in the final at 18:00 GMT. San Pablo is aiming at a historic successful title defence.
