The FIBA Intercontinental Cup commences today at the Hassan Mostafa Sports Complex in Cairo, Egypt with four teams set to compete. The tournament runs from February 11 to February 13.
South American Champions Flamengo takes on NBA Gatorade League (G-League) Champions Lakeland Magic in the opening game at 15:00 GMT.
Egyptian side Zamalek represents Africa in the tournament and is due to play San Pablo Burgos at 18:00 GMT at the same venue. Zamalek won the 2021 Basketball Africa League (BAL) beating US Monastir in the final.
Spanish side San Pablo is the defending champion and the winners of today’s games progress to play in the final scheduled for Sunday, February 13.
Zamalek will compete in the second edition of the BAL that runs from March 5 to May 28 with Zamalek drawn in the Nile Conference. 12 teams will compete in the BAL with games to be hosted in Dakar, Cairo and Kigali, Rwanda.
Ghana’s Amida Brimah competed at the 2019 Intercontinental Cup with Austin Spurs.
