The draw for teams competing at the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) has been conducted and the 12 participating teams have been drawn into two groups at the initial stage.

Six teams have been drawn to compete in the Sahara Conference and six teams have been drawn to compete in the Nile Conference. Games in the Sahara Conference are to be played in Dakar, Senegal while games in the Nile Conference are to be played in Cairo, Egypt.

Tunisian side US Monastir and Moroccan side AS Sale are the only teams in the Sahara Conference returning to the BAL after competing in the maiden edition held in 2021.

The remaining teams including DUC from Senegal are debutants in the FIBA Africa-NBA tournament; Monastir finished in second place in 2021 losing the title to Egyptian side Zamalek.

AS Sale ended the tournament that was played in a bubble due to the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic in sixth place with two wins in four games. Sale and Monastir are tipped to qualify to the final four stage to compete at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda for the 2022 title.
