Basketballghana.com can confirm Zamalek Basketball Club has appointed Will Voigt as Head Coach of the Egyptian club following a poor start to the season.
Zamalek has just seven wins and 14 losses at the time of writing this season and sacked Greek Head Trainer Vangelis Angelou due to poor results.
Former Nigeria and Angola Men’s National Team Head Coach Voigt’s appointment comes at a crucial time with Zamalek preparing to host and compete in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
The team will represent Africa after winning the 2021 Basketball Africa League; Flamengo will represent Brazil, South America while defending champions San Pablo Burgos, Spain will represent Europe and Lakeland Magic of the NBA G-League will represent North America.
Speaking after his appointment, the 2015 AfroBasket winner stated, “Every coaching job presents its own challenges, especially when you come into the middle of the season. We are trying to turn things around. It’s great that the club has a great tradition of winning” in an interview with FIBA.
The Intercontinental Cup runs from February 11 to February 13 in Cairo.
