Former Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks Power Forward Al Harrington has spoken on his recent appointment as Assistant Coach of Cape Town Tigers Basketball Club.
The appointment was announced as the South African club’s place in the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) was confirmed; the team will compete in the FIBA Africa-NBA continental competition for the first time.
This year’s BAL runs from March 5 to May 28 with games to be hosted in Dakar-Senegal, Cairo-Egypt and Kigali-Rwanda with Egyptian side Zamalek as defending champions.
Speaking about his first coaching appointment, Harrington stated, “I plan on bringing 16 years of NBA experience to the organization and locker room where I expect to have the biggest impact. I have an opportunity to pour all my knowledge into the 12 men we have put together to win the BAL.”
Harrington played 16 years in the NBA for teams like Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and Orlando Magic and averaged 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds.
12 teams will compete in the second edition of the BAL and Cape Town qualified via forfeiture as its opponent for the final qualifier-Burundi side New Star-had multiple players test positive for COVID 19.
