Basketballghana.com can report South African side Cape Town Tigers Basketball Club has appointed former NBA player Al Harrington as Assistant Coach. Cape Town Head Coach is Relton Jantjies.
Harrington will serve in an Assistant Coaching role with Cape Town at the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL); Cape Town will compete in the FIBA Africa-NBA tournament for the first time after qualifying to the main group stage of the competition albeit controversially via benefitting from a forfeited game against Burundi’s New Star due to widespread COVID cases in the New Star camp.
The Club has since stated on its official Twitter handle, “Proud, honored, humbled, and excited are just a few words that come to mind when we think about Mr. Al Harrington joining our organization” on the appointment.
41 year old Harrington played the Power Forward position in the NBA for 16 seasons and averaged 13.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists for several teams including Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks.
Egyptian side Zamalek is the defending champion ahead of this year’s edition that runs from March 5 to May 28.
