Basketballghana.com can report try out games to determine players that get drafted to form the first phase of a national select side have concluded with a bevy of top rated players in the Ghanaian circuit participate in the exhibition games.
The exhibition matches were competed for in the Male and Female categories under the watchful eyes of Lithuania Basketball Federation (LBF) Representative Jonas Vainauskas at the Adenta SSNIT Flats Court in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
Players took turns in makeup teams to compete for early spots in what is a project to ultimately establish a National Basketball Team for the West African country that has gone several years without having one.
Two rounds of exhibition games were needed to field players on the court in the Men’s Category; all games were played out competitively and a handful of players were roped in from other regions.
Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) President Ato Van-Ess, GBBA Vice President (Administration and Finance) Alex Kukula, International Basketball University (IBU) West Africa Director Richard Borsah and GBBA-LBF/IBU Team Secretary Thomas Amediku were present at the court to witness proceedings.
All dignitaries gathered emphasized this event was not the main team but the start of creating a foundation for the team to build on; a tentative list of names is expected to be named later this week.
