Basketballghana.com can confirm the Central Regional Tour of the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA)-Lithuania Basketball Federation (LBF)/ International Basketball University (IBU) Team has concluded.
The Team is visiting four locations in the southern sector of the West African nation to assess the state of basketball in the country while selecting players to join the initial phase of a revamped national basketball team.
A meeting scheduled with Members of the Central Regional Basketball Association, University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the region’s National Sports Authority (NSA) Body took place on the main campus of the Institution.
UCC formally expressed its intent to partner Lithuanian based IBU to run courses in basketball in Ghana in the next few years with institution ready to serve as a satellite campus for the world leading IBU. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
An exhibition game involving top players from the region was organized at the Hoops Care International Court; a similar event was organized in Takoradi on Friday, January 14 and games in Accra and Kumasi are to be played out on January 16 and January 18.
IBU West African Director Richard Borsah, GBBA Vice President Alex Kukula, Thomas Amediku and Jonas Vainauskas represented the GBBA-LBF/IBU Team at the meeting.
UCC was represented by Professor Desmond Omane Acheampong, Dr. Ocansey, Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi and Madam Ajubi-Kwakye represented UCC.
The NSA was represented by Central Regional Director Alexander Tieku, Cape Coast Technical Head Joel Ankrah and Central Regional Technical Director Jeffrey Djimate. Organizing Secretary Noble Tandoh represented the Central Regional Basketball Association.
