Representative of Lithuania Basketball Federation (LBF) visit to Ghana Jonas Vainauskas has stated the recreation of a national Men’s Basketball team for Ghana is already in motion.
He said this in his speech during a press conference organized to officially announce his visit to Ghana and activities he will be engaged in during his time in the West African nation. The Press Conference was held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Administrator will lead a tour of basketball teams in various cities in Ghana including Takoradi, Cape Coast and Kumasi as part of the first set of assessment of the state of basketball in the country.
In what Vainauskas described as a new development, he indicated a national team for the men is in the works. He said:
“This came out of discussions yesterday but already in motion as well, the recreation of a national team of Ghana…that national team in full on composition of 16 players will be travelling to Europe for friendly games. We are not sure the level of opponents they are going to be facing but that very much depends on a successful first selection process and the work which is going to be done by the coaches and managers from now until the tour actually begins. This is scheduled for August.”
Ghana isn’t featured on the FIBA Rankings due to a continued absence in competitive international tournaments.
