The Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) has held a successful Dinner Gala with stakeholders at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The program operating under the theme, “Rejuvenating Basketball in Ghana-The All Inclusive Development Agenda” brought together members of the recently elected GBBA Executives and key stakeholders in the Ghanaian basketball space.
The purpose of the event according to Greater Accra Basketball Association Chairman Ayitey Bulley was for the GBBA to present its vision to corporate Ghana to strike a partnership in the near future.
GBBA President Ato Van-Ess, Vice President (Administration and Finance) Alex Kukula, Vice President (Technical and Development Programs) Idrissu Ayambire, Treasurer Aurora Commodore-Toppar and Secretary General Rafiq Arthur were present at the ceremony.
President Van-Ess highlighted the GBBA’s objective to improve governance and administration, improve the technical areas of the sport and improve player development in Ghana in his speech.
The highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the GBBA and the International Basketball University (IBU) based in world basketball powerhouse Lithuania. (Click highlighted text to watch video)
IBU Representative Richard Borsah was on hand to sign the deal that positions Ghana as a prime destination for youth development oriented basketball training programs and technical training programs.
Representatives from the National Sports Authority and Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, Basketball Coaches, Former Players, Administrators and Referees were present at the ceremony.
Former GBBA Presidents David Addo-Ashong and Peter Kpordugbe were honoured at the ceremony for their contribution to Ghana Basketball.
A handful of invited guests donated money to support the GBBA’s renewed course.
