Basketballghana.com can confirm two teams will make their debut in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2022 edition following Cobra Sport and Ferroviario Da Beira’s qualification to the main tournament.
Next year’s BAL runs from March 5 to May 28 with 12 teams set to compete in Dakar, Senegal and Cairo, Egypt in the preliminary stage and Kigali, Rwanda at the knockout stage.
Six teams including Defending BAL Champions Zamalek have automatically qualified to compete in the 2022 edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa tournament.
However, six other teams have to qualify via a series of qualification games and Cobra Sport from South Sudan and Ferroviario from Mozambique managed to secure their tickets.
Cobra beat Burundi’s New Star 77-76 to clinch its spot in the Elite 16 East Division qualifiers held in South Africa recently. Ferroviario beat Cape Town Tigers 77-75 after losing to Tigers in the zonal qualifiers earlier this year to secure the other spot.
Four more spots are yet to be filled ahead of the start of the competition.
