Ghana born French International Guard Yakuba Ouattara has spoken extensively about AS Monaco’s struggles in the 2021 Euroleague Basketball Championship.

Monaco ranks 11th on the 18 team league standings of the celebrated continental competition in Europe with five wins and six losses in 11 outings.

The team has won just one game away from home including losses to Maccabi Tel Aviv and Anadolu Efes in its last two outings away from France.

In an interview with BeBasket, the 6 foot 3 inch Combo Guard pointed out to the team’s defense as the main issue that needs to be fixed.

“We have a lot of work both offensively and defensively…In attack, there will always be talent even if sometimes we lack cohesion but on defense, we cannot win the Euroleague if we collect as many points as points as in Maccabi (98)and Istanbul (95). Is not acceptable” he stated.

After spending a season with Coosur Real Betis, Ouattara returned to Monaco this season for his seventh campaign as a professional basketball player. However, he is averaging just three points in 8:47 minutes across six games in the Euroleague.
