After 56 years, Egypt has been picked as Host of the 2022 FIBA Intercontinental Cup/ Club World Cup becoming the first African nation to be picked as Host.

This comes on the back of an announcement made by FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis; Egypt’s Cairo will host the competition from February 11 to February 13, 2022.

Four teams will compete in the tournament; Spain’s San Pablo Burgos will represent Europe after bagging the FIBA Champions League title while NBA Gatorade League Champs Lakeland Magic represents North America and Brazilian team Flamengo represents South America.

Zamalek of Egypt will represent Africa after winning the inaugural edition of the Basketball Africa League that had 12 teams compete in Kigali, Rwanda.

“We are very excited and looking forward to this truly historical moment, when the FIBA Intercontinental Cup will take place in Africa and will feature an African club” Zagklis stated.

Egypt has hosted several international competitions including the 2017 FIBA Under 17 World Cup.
