Scottie Pippen‘s verbal attacks against his former Chicago Bulls teammate Michael Jordan do not stop, and this time the NBA Hall of Famer criticized the famous Flu Game.
Just a week after excerpts leaked from Pippen’s book, Unguarded, which was released last Tuesday, he has now launched a missile at one of MJ’s unforgettable games.
During a Sirius XM interview, Pippen disparaged Jordan’s praise for his performance in that game against the Utah Jazz in the 1997 NBA Finals. Apparently Michael had earlier eaten a contaminated pizza that gave him flu-like symptoms.
A game in which an exhausted Jordan ended up hugging Pippen after scoring 38 points, with seven rebounds and five assists in the Bulls’ 88-90 victory that put the series 3-2 for the Bulls in the Finals.
More Pippen’s hatred against Jordan
Pippen compared his performance to Jordan’s legendary game, after Scottie played through a back injury in the 1997 NBA Finals.
“I’m gonna ask you this: Is it easier to play with a herniated disc or to play with the flu?,” Pippen asked.
“They always say the worst injury to have is a bad back,” Frank Isola said.
“Well, I don’t see many ‘bad back games,’ but I do see ‘flu games’. Flu? Come on,” Pippen replied.
The Bulls won Game 6 of those NBA finals, 87-86, with another brilliant performance by Jordan, but Pippen, who recorded eight points, three rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes, said he was suffering from a back issue and would not have been available to play the potential Game 7.
“No, I was done, pretty much,” Pippen said. “I struggled to pull it through in that game and I suffered from it. Still suffering from it. But I wouldn’t have played in a Game 7. I just wasn’t able to go.”
Pippen attacked The Last Dance documentary series, calling Jordan “condescending” after he defined Pippen “his best teammate of all time.”
