Reformers of Prisons are having a ball in the 2021 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I Season with the team yet to lose a game even after the conclusion of the Regular Season.
The team earlier today recorded a 63-46 win over Ghana Fire Service before its adoring fans at the Prisons Court in Cantonments in Accra.
Reformers won eight regular season games in the shortened 2021 ABL campaign and grabbed its win to lead the playoff series 1-0. Another win guarantees qualification to the league final.
Match Report
Ibrahim Babuso scored a layup on a fast break to give Reformers a 16-8 lead with 4:48 minutes remaining in the second quarter. Nana Kwame Adjei extended the lead before Gabriel Ashaley blocked Emmanuel Ocquaye’s shot.
Fire ended the drought before James Amotoe scored four points and Ashaley added two points off strong layup drives. Ocquaye missed a pair of free throws at the end of the first half as Fire trailed 13-26.
Ocquaye scored the third quarter’s first points; Amotoe scored four points and assisted Abdul Aziz’s easy layup. Abraham Allotey scored two points but missed the chance to complete a three point play as Reformers led 34-17 with 6:23 minutes left in the quarter.
Bright Yeboah and Allotey traded jumpers before Babuso scored a three pointer to spark a 7-0 run for Reformers. Bashiru Moro scored for Fire finishing off his initial miss; Allotey scored a three pointer to end the third quarter with Reformers leading 48-23
Fire started the final quarter with an 8-0 run that had Gabriel Wood, Moro and Evans Amartey score. Amotoe buried a jumper, a tough layup and a free throw for Prisons to counter Fire’s hot start.
Reformers led 53-37 after 5:40 minutes played in the final quarter. David Laryea and Ocquaye scored three pointers for Fire. Ashaley and Prince Sampson got points for Reformers and late points from the charity stripe ensured the win was sealed.
