Nigerian Basketball players have demonstrated against Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) President Musa Kida ahead of elections later this month.
The elections are scheduled to be held in Benin City, Edo State on Saturday, October 30 and the latest development is another huge blow to the aspirations of Kida retaining his seat.
Basketball Players Representative Stanley Gumut led the demonstration that had demonstrators hold placards of “Kida Must Go”; the demonstrators also called for the elections to be held in Abuja.
Earlier this month, members of the Nigerian National Women’s Basketball Team (D’Tigress) voiced out their frustration against the Federation, Sports Ministry and national government over unpaid bonuses after winning the 2021 Women’s AfroBasket title and competing at the Tokyo Olympics.
Days later, members of D’Tigress released a statement rejecting part payment of bonuses stressing the need to be paid their bonuses in full and have a General Manager appointed for the national team.
Basketballghana.com gathers Nigeria’s Sports Ministry held an emergency meeting between Kida and main rival and former Federation President Tijani Umar.
