In relation to a threatened boycott by members of the Nigerian Women’s National Basketball Team (D’Tigress), the team has released a press statement to reject the latest efforts by the Ministry of Sports to pay their bonuses.

Basketballghana.com can confirm D’Tigress have rejected part payment of bonuses they are due after winning the 2021 FIBA Women’s African Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) last month thanks to a 70-59 win over Mali in Cameroon.

In a previous report by Basketballghana.com, members of the winning team complained they had not been paid bonuses worth close to $200,000 after their exploits in Cameroon and Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics. (Click highlighted text to view story)

Reports indicate the Nigerian Sports Ministry has made part payment of the monies owed to the team this past weekend but that has been swiftly rejected by D’Tigress via the statement.

The team also pressed for the appointment of a General Manager and improved travel conditions aside full payment of the bonuses in the statement. Below is the full statement from the team:
