Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) Presidential nominee Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah has indicated his readiness to review the GBBA Constitution to reflect the views and expectations of the basketball fraternity in the West African nation by bringing more representation to the proverbial table.
He said this in an exclusive wide ranging interview with Basketballghana.com ahead of the elections slated for Saturday, October 30 at the Accra Sports Stadium Media Center.
Per the official letter announcing the scheduled Congress, only 18 people representing 18 constituents will vote on leaders for the next administration. Responding to a question of the limited number of delegates, Dr. Kwasi-Kumah stated:
“The constitution needs a lot of work to be done on it because for instance we don’t even have a player’s association as one of the constituents and without players there is no basketball so it’s a very big omission that must be there. Also we have new regions we are now 16 regions but the constitution still talks about 10 regions”.
“The constitution maybe about 20 years old so it needs a lot of work to be done on it. Even the four positions to be elected I think are too few; we need to have things like Organizer, we need to have a Secretary of sorts there should be at least about probably seven electable positions not only four so that we will have a broad base.”
