Basketballghana.com can confirm a special basketball game is to be played between the Tema and Sakumono Basketball Fraternities to celebrate the life of Power Forward Gerald Sappor who passed away recently.
The game dubbed “The Legend Ball” is scheduled to be played at the Fridays Basketball Court in Sakumono in Accra. The game tips off at 17:00 GMT.
Players and officials connected to teams in the Tema Basketball League (TBL) and the respective teams are expected to grace the occasion on Thursday to honour Sappor whose demise hit the fraternities hard.
The former Adisadel College and University of Ghana (UG) player made his mark by playing a key role in Nungua Coldstore’s triumph in the TBL twice.
For UG, he helped the Men’s Basketball team of Ghana’s premier University win two Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship titles.
That aside, UG won the 2020 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games Basketball Gold Medal during Sappor’s time on the team. His hardworking and selfless style endeared him to all teammates.
