Basketballghana.com can confirm defending FIBA Women’s African Nations Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) Nigeria has progressed to the semifinals of the 2021 edition.
This year’s Women’s AfroBasket is taking place in Yaounde, Cameroon and is scheduled to conclude on September 26. 12 nations qualified to compete at the tournament.
Earlier today, Nigeria bagged a 72-56 win over Ivory Coast in the first of four scheduled ties at the quarterfinal stage. The win takes the West African nation a step closer to successfully defend its title.
Ezinne Kalu powered D’Tigress to its 18th win in a row on the continent with a game leading 17 points and was one of four Nigerian players to score in double figures in the game.
Ivory Coast had Salimata Berte lead the way with 13 points and Djefarima Diawara chipped with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Senegal plays Mozambique, host nation Cameroon plays Egypt and Mali takes on Angola in the remaining quarterfinal matchups.
Senegal lost 55-60 to Nigeria at the 2019 edition.
