St. Joseph’s CYO Basketball Club gutted out a tough win over Ghana Air Force in the 2021 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I latest round of Regular Season games.

CYO clinched a 57-55 win over Air Force in the last of three league games played out at the Prisons Court in Accra in Cantonments. It was the latest regular season game honoured at the league venue.

Melody Edwards grabbed a pass on the inside to score a layup. Samuel Asare Nyantakyi completed a three point play to give CYO a 5-4 lead with four minutes left. CYO went on a 4-0 run with Rauf Zakari scoring a tough layup but Sulley Wahab hit back with a three pointer. CYO led 10-7 heading to the second quarter.

Benjamin Sowah and Edwards traded baskets to open the second quarter. Yusha Iddi scored one of two free throws and Nana Afriyie scored a three pointer for Air Force. Edwards extended CYO’s lead scoring off a spin move and scored a free throw to register three points.

Ariyie scored four straight points including a tough floater as Air Force trailed 16:18 midway through the quarter. Emmanuel Lamptey tied the game at 18. Iddi put CYO ahead 25-20 with a three pointer and a two handed dunk.

Edwards drained a jump shot with his first attempt after the half time break and went ahead to boss the opening phase of the quarter by making a huge block and finishing off a fast break.

Sowah scored a layup and Oforoi Sarpong added another layup. Emmanuel Baidoo scored in response for CYO. The teams traded baskets to close the quarter with CYO leading 44-33.

With 3:10 minutes remaining, CYO led 47-43. Zakari hit a three pointer but Air Force had Sowah and Lamptey scoring. CYO led 55-51 with 1:07 minutes remaining.

Nyantakyi grabbed an offensive rebound and scored to put CYO up 57-51 with 23 seconds left in the game. Sowah hit a jump shot for Air Force to trail 55-57 with 12 seconds left but CYO saw the game off to seal the win.
