Nungua Coldstore Basketball Club has paid a touching tribute to Power Forward/Small Forward Gerald Sappor who passed away recently.
The former University of Ghana (UG) player had an extensive battle with illness before his demise that plunged the Ghana basketball community into mourning.
In the wake of his demise, Coldstore paid tribute to his immense contribution to make Coldstore the most dominant team in the Tema Basketball League and one of the best basketball clubs in Ghana.
Sappor helped Coldstore win two Tema League titles and two BetWay Tournament titles plus a handful of mini tourneys. For UG, he won two Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Championships and the 2018 GUSA Basketball title.
On Twitter, the tribute read, “Legends Never die They live on Forever In our hearts With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gerald Laweh Sappor A brother to all and a legend on all courts he touched. The legend of the 2 guard shall never die.” (Click highlighted text to view full tweet)
Earlier this week, Ghana’s biggest basketball portal caught wind of a new jersey design for the Nungua club with messages paying respect to Sappor.
