Basketballghana.com can confirm President of basketball world governing body FIBA, Hamane Niang, has been cleared of involvement in a series of allegations of sexual harassment leveled against the Malian Basketball Federation during his stint as President of the Federation.

Niang was cleared of overlooking sexual abuse reports during his time at the aforementioned post; he was suspended in June when investigations commenced but has returned to his post after the findings from the investigation was released earlier this week. He responded by stating, “This investigation of paramount importance and I would like to express my personal and unconditional support to the victims. Since the (report) has confirmed my innocence, I will now resume my official duties with FIBA. These offences must be duly prosecuted by FIBA through independent procedures.”

Seven officials connected to the Malian Federation have been suspended included present Federation President Harouna Maiga and Women’s Coach Fanta Diallou.

Mali is preparing to compete at the 2021 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Yaounde, Cameroon.
