Tunisia’s National Men’s Basketball Team has emerged winners of the 2021 FIBA African Nations Basketball Championship (AfroBasket).
The team beat Ivory Coast 78-75 in the final game played at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda to clinch its second AfroBasket title in a row. Tunisia clinched the 2017 edition.
Ivory Coast star man Matt Costello was quiet in the game mustering just nine points and eight rebounds but Souleymane Diabate scored 20 points to keep his team in contention to win the game. This was Ivory Coast’s first final appearance since 2009.
Tunisia’s star trio produced another top performance to guide the team to glory again; Salah Mejri, Michael Roll and Omar Abada scored 22, 18 and 10 points respectively for the North African nation.
Prior to the final, Senegal clinched its second bronze medal at the AfroBasket in a row thanks to an 86-73 win over Cape Verde with Center Gorgui Dieng registering 30 points and 12 rebounds.
Cape Verde Center Walter Edy Tavares ended his brilliant tournament with 18 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.
