Basketballghana.com can report the 2021 FIBA African Nations Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) has commenced in Kigali, Rwanda.
The 30th edition of Africa’s premier Men’s Basketball competition runs from August 24 to September 5 with all games to be played at the Kigali Arena.
In the opening game, defending champion Tunisia run away with an 82-46 win over Guinea with former Dallas Mavericks Center Salah Mejri leading the game thanks to his 17 points, four blocks and two steals performance.
Host nation Rwanda got its campaign off to a flying start thanks to an 82-68 win over DR Congo but the highlight moment in Group A came via Cape Verde’s shock 77-71 win over Angola.
Angola has won the AfroBasket title 11 times but missed out on its first win in the 2021 Tournament; Real Madrid Center Walter Tavares starred for Cape Verde by producing 20 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks.
Egypt bagged a72-56 win over Central African Republic and earlier today, Nigeria scored an 81-73 win over Mali in the West African showdown.
