Basketballghana.com can confirm Nigeria’s National Men’s Basketball Team (D’Tigers) will commence preparation for the 2021 FIBA African Nations Basketball Championship (AfroBasket).
This was reported on the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s (NBBF) Twitter page on Sunday, August 15 with the 30th edition of the AfroBasket due to commence on August 24.
The tournament is hosted by Rwanda and due to end on September 5 with all games to be played at the Kigali Arena. 16 nations have qualified to compete in the continental competition.
D’Tigers is coming off a disappointing run at the Tokyo Olympic Games with the team losing all three games played against Australia, Italy and Germany.
Nigeria will camp in Oakland in the United States of America with Mike Brown as Head Coach before moving to Kigali. D’Tigers play Mali on August 25.
The team goes into this year’s AfroBasket as silver medalist from the previous edition held in 2017 with Tunisia as the defending champions.
Nigeria plays Ivory Coast and Kenya in the remaining games at the Group phase.
