Adenta Leopards Basketball Club has picked up its first win of the 2021 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I season.
The team has secured a 58-34 win over Kawukudi Warriors at the Prisons Court in Cantonments in Accra; the 2021 league campaign commenced on Wednesday, July 28 in the division.
Leopards looked bar a slow conclusion to the first quarter in what is the team’s first league outing since losing to Braves of Customs in the 2019 Finals Series. The 2020 season was lost due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
A converted three point shot on the first possession of the game got Adenta to a 7-0 lead with 3:57 minutes played in the first quarter. Warriors answered with an 8-0 run; Lawrence Amable and Abdul Salim scored from three point range. Sylvester Asirifi scored a jumper to give Warriors a 10-9 lead with 2:37 minutes left. Warriors got more points before Treasure Botchwey ended the barren run by scoring a contested layup.
Warriors got sloppy with possession and turned the ball over multiple times in the second quarter. The team also fared poorly on defense as rotations broke down with Leopards scoring a handful of uncontested jumpers. Leopards ended the first half with a 27-17 lead.
Bajigah Mohammed scored points and Botchwey scored on a fast break for Leopards. Aside a made three pointer by Amable, Warriors couldn’t muster a potent offense and trailed 23-43 at the end of the third quarter.
Both teams traded three pointers to open the fourth quarter. Navy attempted several free throws but missed a significant number. Leopards on the other hand, feasted in the paint scoring points off second chance opportunities to seal the 24 point win.
