The first game of the 2021 Accra Basketball League (ABL) game in the Men’s Division I scheduled to be played at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, in Accra didn’t come off as planned.

The contest between Tudu Magic and Braves of Customs scheduled to tip off at 17:00 GMT failed to be honoured as planned due to Magic forfeiting the contest.

Magic failed to present enough players who had been vaccinated against the COVID 19 virus; per the 2021 season rules, any player who isn’t vaccinated, isn’t eligible to compete in the season.

For a team to avoid forfeiting a game it must present at least five players on game day but unvaccinated players need to provide proof of a negative COVID test at least three days before a league game.

The league rolled out a three day COVID 19 vaccination program for all league personnel earlier this month at the Lebanon House in Tudu.

As a result, Braves were declared winners with 20-0 result; the team jumps to the top spot in Group A of the league. Customs won the 2019 League title but the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID outbreak.
