Basketballghana.com can confirm Tudu Magic Basketball Club has forfeited its matchup with Braves of Customs in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I.
The contest was the opening game of the 2021 campaign in the division and was scheduled to be honoured at the Prisons Court in Cantonments in Accra.
However, the scheduled contest was not honoured as Magic failed to present enough players to compete in the game. Per rules adopted for the 2021 season, players who haven’t been vaccinated aren’t allowed to compete in games.
The league embarked on a three day COVID 19 vaccination program and successfully vaccinated little over 70% of league personnel. Unvaccinated players are to show proof of a negative test at least three days before a scheduled league game to be eligible to compete.
This development puts Magic’s campaign in serious doubt should the team fail to have enough eligible players to compete. Braves are the defending champions of the division; the COVID 19 pandemic wiped out the 2020 season.
