Basketballghana.com can confirm Nigeria has been ranked fourth in the Power Rankings released by Basketball world governing body FIBA ahead of the start of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The delayed Olympics Men’s Basketball competition commences on Sunday, July 25 with 12 nations competing for the Gold medal.

Nigeria’s National Men’s Basketball Team (D’Tigers) is the only African nation competing at the Olympics and is in Group B with Germany, Italy and Australia.

In three exhibition games, Nigeria beat USA and Argentina but lost to Australia with the results boosting their chances of making a deep run in the Olympics.

No African nation has made it to the Quarterfinals of an international competition at the senior level in Men’s Basketball and per the ranking, Nigeria could be the first country to do so.

Australia, Spain and USA are ranked ahead of Nigeria and USA topped Spain in its final exhibition game after losing to Australia and Nigeria.

USA is the defending Champion.
