Basketballghana.com can confirm Nigeria’s National Women’s Basketball Team will play USA in a friendly game on Sunday, July 18.
The exhibition game is a preparatory game for both countries ahead of the Tokyo Olympics where the two nations have been drawn in Group B alongside Japan and France.
The contest is expected to be played out at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas in the United States where Nigeria’s D’Tigress camps.
Nigeria is the only African nation at the Tokyo Olympics that commences on July 24 after Senegal and Mozambique missed out on qualification. The West African nation booked a spot at the Olympics via the 2018 Women’s Basketball World Cup held in Spain.
The upcoming game comes on the back of Nigeria’s Men’s Team beat USA 90-87 in an exhibition game played earlier this week in Las Vegas.
In a strange twist of events, the Ogwumike sisters-Nneka, Chiney, Erica-could end up playing for Nigeria in Sunday’s exhibition against the USA.
All three sisters were born in the United States to Nigerian parents; Chiney and Nneka have represented USA internationally but could end up playing for Nigeria should FIBA permit them to do so. (Click highlighted text to view story)
