The friendly game tips off on July 10 and gives the Mike Brown led team the chance to evaluate his players before making the final cut on his roster.

Nigeria’s Basketball Federation announced the first cut that runs the 49 man list to 15 initially but updated to 16 men. The announcement raised a lot of eyebrows as the team was without veteran players Ike Diogu, Al Farouq Aminu and Ben Uzoh.

The likes of Toronto Raptors’ OG Anunoby and Monte Morris of Denver Nuggets did not make the cut as well.

Brown is expected to name his final list of 12 mere days ahead of the start of the Olympics on July 24; the basketball competition tips off on July 25.

USA and Nigeria faced off at the 2012 Olympics and the latter suffered a 73-156 loss to the former in what is a record loss in the competition’s history.
