Basketballghana.com can confirm Tunisia’s quest to compete at the Tokyo Olympics has come to an end after losing back to back games in the ongoing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
The qualifiers are one of four mini tournaments taking place at different locations to determine nations that qualify to take up the four remaining spots at the Olympics.
Tunisia played well but ultimately lost 70-75 to Tournament Host Croatia after falling 57-83 to Brazil; Croatia lost 67-94 to Brazil in a previous contest meaning the win over Tunisia takes the European nation to the semifinals of the tourney.
Croatia was led by former and current NBA players to the win with Ante Zizic, Mario Hezonja and Bojan Bogdanovic scoring 27, 14 and 14 points respectively.
Radhouane Slimane led Tunisia with 15 points and seven rebounds with former Dallas Mavericks Center Salah Majri adding 13 points and five rebounds.
Africa’s other Olympic contenders Angola and Senegal also failed to make it to the semifinal stage with Senegal unable to travel from its base in Germany due to COVID 19 complications.
