The contest forms part of preparation for both countries for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo that starts on July 25 with four slots left remaining in the Men’s Basketball Division.
Nigeria is Africa’s sole confirmed team at the Olympics with Angola, Tunisia and Senegal also in the running to book a spot in Tokyo via special mini qualification tournaments slated for early July. Nigeria booked its spot via the 2019 Basketball World Cup.
The last time the two teams met, USA drubbed Nigeria 156-73 in what is the biggest point difference in a loss in Men’s Basketball history at the Olympics.
Nigeria Head Coach Mike Brown has invited 49 players to camp including 13 players playing in the NBA like American Guard Monte Morris who committed internationally to Nigeria this year; the number will be reduced to 12 to meet FIBA standards. (Click highlighted text to view story)
