Basketballghana.com can report 49 players have been called to Nigeria’s Men’s Basketball Team Camp ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The delayed Olympics commences on July 25 with the men’s basketball competition expected to tip off three days later; Nigeria is Africa’s sole confirmed representative at the Games as Angola, Tunisia and Senegal are set to compete in qualifying tournaments early in July.
The call up is headlined by 13 players in the world’s best basketball league-the NBA; Head Coach Mike Brown is a veteran Coach in the league and was named 2009 Coach of the Year.
Toronto Raptors Guard/Small Forward OG Anunoby and Denver Nuggets Guard Monte Morris are set to make their debut run in the national team after the call up. American Guard Morris committed to play international basketball for the West African nation earlier this year.
Wes Iwundu of New Orleans Pelicans, Jahlil Okafor of Detroit Pistons, Josh Okogie of Minnesota Timberwolves and Chimedzie Metu of Sacramento Kings have been called up.
Veterans like Chicago Bulls Al-Farouq Aminu, Ekpe Udoh of Beijing RF and Ike Diogu are in the team.
