Basketballghana.com gathers a handful of Angolan players in the Petro De Luanda Basketball Club have been axed from Angola’s National Men’s Team.
The action was taken a few hours ago when the players failed to show up to the national team camp as the Southern African nation prepares to compete in the 2020 Olympics Qualifying Tournament.
The Qualifying Tournament is to be held in Lithuania with Africa’s most successful nation taking on Poland and Slovenia with an aim to make it to Tokyo for the games. As it stands, Nigeria is Africa’s sole representative at the Games.
According to FIBA Reporter Julio Chitunda, the players were axed after they failed to report to the national team camp without permission following their return from Rwanda where they competed in the inaugural edition of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Per reports reaching Basketballghana.com, Leonel Paulo and Childe Dundao were the only Petro Luanda players whose absence was justified.
Petro finished in third place at the BAL. Angola will compete at this year’s AfroBasket that runs from August 24 to September 5 in Rwanda.
