Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens will move from his current role to become the new head of basketball operations as president Danny Ainge plans to resign, sources tell The Athletic.
Ainge, 62, has held the position since 2003. During his tenure, he engineered trades for the Timberwolves’ Kevin Garnett and SuperSonics’ Ray Allen in 2007 to join Paul Pierce, building Boston’s new big three. The blockbuster moves earned Ainge the NBA Executive of the Year Award (2008), and the team won a championship in 2008 against the Lakers for the franchise’s 17th NBA title.
This is a developing story. More to come.
