Basketballghana.com can confirm Nigerian side Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club will compete against Patriots Basketball Club in the opening game of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
The game tips off the inaugural edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa continental tournament that commences on Sunday, May 16 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
12 teams representing 12 countries on the African continent are set to participate in the tournament that runs till May 30 with all games taking place behind closed doors at the Kigali Arena in line with COVID 19 protocols.
Hoopers qualified to the tournament from Zone 3 after topping the zonal; group that had Ghana’s Braves of Customs compete in. The team has gone through four days of quarantine and has commenced team activities inside the bubble.
Senegal’s AS Douanes plays Algeria’s GS Petroilers the following day at 12:00 GMT; Patriots-Hoopers opener tips off at 14:00 GMT.
The preliminary stage matches are to end on May 22; the top two teams from each of three groups progress to the next stage with the two best third best placed teams.
