Basketballghana.com can confirm competing teams in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) have been paired in groups ahead of the commencement of the inaugural edition of the NBA-FIBA Africa tournament.
The continental tournament runs from May 16 to May 30 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda with 12 teams representing 12 countries on the continent set to participate.
Group A has Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers, Tunisia’s US Monastir, Rwanda’s Patriots and Madagascar’s GNBC with Group B having Angola’s Petro Atletico, AS Sale from Morocco, AS Police from Mali and FAP from Cameroon.
Zamalek from Egypt, AS Douanes from Senegal, Ferroviaro do Maputo from Mozambique and GS Petroilers from Algeria have been drawn in Group C.
The top two teams and the best third placed teams in each group progress to the quarterfinal stage/ elite eight stage. All games in the playoffs stage are to be determined via single elimination games.
The COVID 19 pandemic forced the BAL’s launch to delay for a year and games are to be played without fans in attendance. Ghana’s Braves of Customs competed in the zonal qualifiers but missed out on qualification to the main tournament.
