Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) President David Addo-Ashong has stated sponsorship for lesser known sports in Ghana has dried up.
He made this statement at the Ghana Basketball Conference held earlier today on ZOOM that had multiple international and Ghanaian based basketball personalities engage in conversations on wide ranging topics affecting the development of the sport in the country.
Sponsorships for competitions and various national teams are hard to come by and is a major reason for the stunted growth of the sport as indicated by the GBBA President in his address.
“Basketball in Ghana, old game, a lot of us have been playing for years…in recent years, sponsorships for lesser known sports has dried up and we are a victim of that” he said.
However, he remains adamant about the potential of the sport to grow saying, “the game has not shrunk in Ghana, it is thriving it is everywhere. People are playing basketball there are more courts…because of the enthusiasm that people have for the game”.
Basketball Africa League Head of League Operations Lamine Savane and New York Knicks Manager of Minor League Operations Pops Mensah-Bonsu spoke at the Conference.
