Basketballghana.com can confirm the inaugural edition of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) will commence on May 16 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The FIBA Africa-NBA league is a continental competition that has 12 teams representing countries on the continent in line with tapping into Africa’s growing love for the sport.
The competition will run from May 16 to May 30 and all games are to be played at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda after multiple postponements due to the corona virus pandemic.
The first ever edition of the BAL was scheduled to be played out last year in multiple cities on the continent but the corona virus pandemic halted those plans and forced organizers to postpone the tournament.
However, with corona cases of infection and related deaths falling in Africa coupled with the competition in line to be played in a bubble, organizers have announced the start of the historic league.
BAL is the NBA’s first partnership with another organization to organize a basketball league outside North America. BAL is envisaged as a feeder to the NBA’s draft.
