Basketballghana.com gathers former Senegal National Basketball Men and Women’s Team Head Coach Cheikh Sarr is set to be appointed as Head Coach of Rwanda’s Men’s National Basketball Team.

The 53 year old is expected to be confirmed as Coach next month as Rwanda continues preparations for the upcoming FIBA African Nations Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) according to Rwandan news outlet NewTimes

Rwanda will host the 2021 edition of the continental competition with 16 nations expected to compete at the recently built Kigali Arena.

Sarr has extensive coaching experience after leading Senegal’s Men’s and Women’s team to the Basketball World Cup in 2014 and 2018 respectively and multiple AfroBasket competitions.

Rwanda is in line to sign one of the continent’s top technical minds with Sarr having a Master’s PhD in Sports Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.

Defending champions Tunisia and other heavyweights on the continent including Nigeria, Angola, Senegal and Egypt have qualified to compete in the 2021 AfroBasket.
