Basketballghana.com can report Nigeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has stated the country’s government will support the Male and Female National Basketball Teams at this year’s Olympics.
Nigeria’s Men’s Basketball Team-D’Tigers and Female Team-D’Tigress have qualified to compete in the Olympics after starring in competitions in 2019 and 2020.
This statement comes in response to a request of $4million by Nigeria Basketball Federation President Musa Kida from the government to support the teams’ preparation for the Games.
According to news outlet InsideTheGame.Biz , The Sports Minister have taken notice of the request and offered words of encouragement stating:
“We know how much they need…We have a budget for them and Government will support our basketball team with the budget that will make them perform at the Olympics. We are focused on making sure that basketball gets the support it needs.”
Playing at the Tokyo Olympics is set to be D’Tigers third consecutive appearance at the Olympics while D’Tigress are scheduled to make their second ever appearance at the Olympics.
