Basketballghana.com can confirm young Ghanaian basketball player Derrick Fiifi Quansah will redshirt his freshman year at East Carolina University.
The Center was scheduled to play out his freshman year during the 2020-2021 season with the Pirates but Head Coach Joe Dooley has pushed Quansah’s run in the further back.
He is one of two players to redshirt this season; teammate Edra Luster is expected to redshirt what would have been his Senior year due to injury.
Dooley’s reason to redshirt Quansah is mainly down to Quansah’s continued development at the position according to his statement relayed by East Carolina.
“Fifi is raw, energetic and bouncy. From a sheer physical standpoint, he’s got a lot to offer, but he’s got to continue to learn how to play. I think sitting out and practicing every day will go a long way towards his development” he said.
Quansah is a 6 foot 11 inch athletic defender with a developing offensive game who was based in Cape Coast in Ghana before his departure to the United States of America.
